Introducing the Build Australia Creator Fellowship
Build Australia is a movement and mindset shift to shake this country out of stagnation. Our mission is to reignite Australian risk-taking, creativity, and ambition. We aim to empower our nation's youth with the belief that life can be better, while pushing for an Australia where innovation and industry can flourish.
As a new media institution, we believe culture moves first and tangible change follows. We launched our movement in 2026, reaching hundreds of thousands of Australians in our first weeks, with thousands of supporters raising their hands to help build a better future for the country.
Today, we announce a new initiative to push our mission forward: the Build Australia Fellowship.
We are seeking a small, passionate crew of video creators and storytellers to help tell stories of our nation’s builders, and to challenge a media landscape rife with culture-war clickbait and pessimism. We will focus on stories of what could be, on those who are asking ‘why not?’, on creating, and on building things.
Build Australia is a registered charity focused on advancing both education and public debate through content, community and more.
About the program
The fellowship is a six-month paid commitment to create content for the new media and engagement platform. Over the course of the fellowship you will:
- Produce and publish content that tells the story of Australian ambition, innovation, creativity and potential.
- Develop your own ideas and, with the support of our editorial team, bring them to life as original video content for the Build Australia platform, shooting, editing and presenting your own work.
- Work as part of a small team of fellows and storytellers, building alongside people rather than in isolation.
- Collaborate with other fellows, and with a team of experienced content creatives, producers and advisors, when your story calls for a bigger swing.
- Have your work seen by a national audience, opening doors for debate, ambition and future opportunity.
Commitment
This is a very rare and uniquely shaped opportunity, for the eager and ambitious. As part of our initial cohort, you will also be an integral part in helping develop its long-term future.
- Program span: Our initial fellows will commence in a rolling fashion from late 2026
- Compensation: A$85,000 per annum, pro rata, plus superannuation
- Time required: This is a full-time equivalent commitment, with built-in flexibility.
- Location: We will require fellows to be based in Sydney, as we believe in-person collaboration will be critical to all fellows, and the organisation. We work from a shared creative space in Alexandria, NSW, with a few other small business operators in the creative/production space.
This program is far from a typical job. You will not be handheld or guided by default, but supported and empowered to pursue and excel. You'll need high agency and the ability to take an idea from a rough thought to a finished piece on your own steam.
This is not an ‘hourly’ role. You will be held to a high standard, as a representative of a charity organisation with a meaningful mission. Fellows may also be invited to continue their work in future cohorts.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for fellows to be representative of Australia’s unique societal fabric, bringing unique points of view and openness to telling stories and engaging with people who come from differing backgrounds and perspectives.
You are:
- A budding creator with a proven ability to make original video content, ideally with a body of work you can point to. Perhaps you have a channel of your own on social media, a YouTube channel, or a digital zine.
- High integrity, open, organised and accountable. You can upskill yourself quickly.
- Someone who brings a genuinely fresh perspective, rather than a remixed version of what's already out there.
- Deeply connected to Australia, with genuine, palpable optimism about the country, and its present and future potential.
How to apply
